Silent Road

When the sun is blazing
30 degrees slight breeze
Rolled windows elbow leaning
Ahead a lonely road to tease

The horizon is far and bleak
Ripples of a mirage float on tare
30 kilometre stretch to peak
No-one in sight no man no car

Eyes wide open awake and alert
Keep going straight beyond the crest
No man is around though mammals lurk
Stay alive be safe take stops to rest

The silent road only hears the souls
Inside and outside are worlds apart
Music blaring watch the holes
Kids moaning sleeping crying starts

Distance from afar so deafening
Inner thoughts they ramble
Memories of childhood resurfacing
Memories made seem to scramble

Wondering where nomads travelled
Pondering life's interesting games
Intrigued by nature and industrial revelled
The silent road listens and tames

Conversations run dry and shake
The sun begins to fall
We await for the night to break
To again start the days journey crawl

Sapphire

We've adventured to lands
Far and near
Cruised creeks and rivers
Both murky and clear

Magnificent creatures
Deadly and fossilized
Magnificent colours
Earth, water, skies

Sometimes we travelled roads
Of long long stretches
We met all walks of life
From all sorts of distances

From jumping crocs
To Aboriginal art sites
Too many hot springs
Radiant campfire nights

Head west of the Giant easel
And into the gem fields
Grab a bucket of wash, a sieve
With water it will be revealed

As the mud and clay disappears
The sunlight catches the stones
All the wonderful, colours of the rainbow
Some bright, some chrome

Sapphires are a glassy gem
The clearer the more divine
We managed to collect some specs
Some we kept that we could find

Thus sapphire is a small token
Of our Australian Outback drive
A reminder of our love
Until the next time we arrive...

Campfire

Amidst the isolation and the crisis of 2020 Covid-19, I thought it would be a fantastic idea to use my time wisely with creative writing. It's been 5 years since my last blog and I'll change it up a bit from a blog about my favourite songs to poetry and words I have been writing since I was a young girl. I get many random thoughts constantly, and sometimes I manage to capture them. Here is one I wrote on our family journey to The Northern Territory, Australia in July 2019. I call it CAMPFIRE

Burning leaves begins at spark
As the air lifts a single flame
Wood turns yellow screaming through
Doust in dry foliage the embers alight

One two seven stacks on the pile
Catching the orange heat
A log hits the ash and woof to the sky
Settling to a calming crackle

Smoke fills the open air
The sun sets low on the dusk edge
Branches sway in a stillness winter
Skies glowing a mirror to the flame

Speckled darkness as you see the twilight
Knees so warm to touch
Hands busy finding pockets of warmth
A chill behind the neck

Grey and red charcoal emanates softly
Smoky wisps of hair and hands of burnt branches
Cold toes and blanket backs
Thank you fire the element of energy

There's something special about a campfire
Maybe disconnection from the hustle
A silence in nature brings closeness to beauty
Appreciation of oneness on Earth

With Arms Wide Open

The wait is only starting. As the time is slowly passing by. 4 weeks until we see this little human. That kicks and punches and grows inside me. Some days are better than others. A bad day is walking through Aldi doing your normal weekly shop and suddenly your leg gives way with a screeching pinched nerve forcing you to crouch in a position that could only look bad for a heavily pregnant lady. You’re not in labour. But everyone who saw you most definitely thinks you are. It goes away and you finish the shopping as quickly as you can, purposefully not grabbing the things you wanted just to avoid other inhabitants. A good day is not peeing your pants. Or having your two year old poo her toilet training pants that leak onto white carpet just because you had to have a shower or put the clothes on the line for 5 minutes. A good day is really nonexistent in this household. I bet non-parents wonder why on earth we go through so much pain, put our bodies in absolute indescribable agony, to never completely recover from child birth and deal with the poo, vomit, screams, tantrums, mess, anti-social life, smelly cars, stains, and 1001 more reasons AND we are ridiculous to do it all again. Sometimes 2 or 5 or 10 times over. Why are we so stupid and silly to get ourselves into a situation that was terrible in the first place? It may sound cliché but it’s true, I just look at my wonderful baby that me and my hubby created and actually can’t wait to have another one just like her. 4 weeks. Okay, maybe I can wait. They change your life completely. But once they are in your arms you never want to let them go. And you should never let them separate from your heart. People go through some unfortunate events and only those people would ever understand. If you are a parent you must cherish your children as beautiful blessings because no matter how mad you get at them, or how tough it is to scrub permanent marker out of walls, or how frustrating it is when they cry if they want to ride a horse then cry when they get on the horse, no matter how much they don’t listen to you they are still a blessing. I’ve learnt to breathe through the pain and frustration. Yeah, It’s not easy but teaching yourself to love their mistakes and their bad moods brings even more happiness when they do something right. When they lift their heads, start to crawl, begin to walk, when they say ‘Mumma’ & ‘Dadda’, when they can feed themselves, when they can kick a ball, when they say “I Lubboo”, when they hug you for no apparent reason other than because you love them back. It’s these moments that we need to remember why we do it more than once. My experience has been a whirlwind journey and I have a feeling it’s not going to slow down quite just yet. But I accept and am ready as I ever will. My song of the day is With Arms Wide Open by Creed. It’s a beautiful song accepting the life that has been created and acknowledging the responsibilities that comes with parenthood.

Stand By Me

It's been a whole 2 years since my last post and I think it's time to get back into my creative skin again. I've learnt that no matter what happens in your life, who walks in and out of your heart, no matter where you've stopped to smell the flowers or where you're about to begin your next adventure, love and passion will always be possessed inside of you. Passion and success are two words that motivate me to start a photography course and to begin writing again. Whatever your passion may be may you always find something or someone to stand by you when times are great and when times are grim. And this takes us into the song of the day: Stand By Me by Marlisa (Australian X-Factor winner of 2014). Her amazing lyrics are so uplifting and it possesses something beautiful in a love between friends. I've taken these lyrics and made them a rule of life.

As a token of my passion I will try to complete my online photography course in correspondence with my blog. Documenting is something I never had problem with until I got married and started a family. Being a working mum I never seem to find time for myself so now it's MY time. MY time to do something that really made me happy when I was younger and free.

I am completing the BESTPHOTOLESSON.com Photography course online. And will post as often as I can.

First Lesson - INTENT

Think about why you want to take pictures. Write down a list of:

  • Things you like about photography. Do you love the moment of seeing the images in prints or on your screen? Is it the challenge of making the photo? Is it the sharing the images with your friends? Is it the memories you get when you look at your photos later? Whatever it is you like about taking pictures, write it down.

*The creativity & diversity of photos *The power of of the human eye & how to capture it *How to capture moments *I love sharing memories and keeping them - printed or filed * I love angles and colour and nature * I love a challenge of capturing 'that' moment.

  • What you want to achieve with photography. Do you want to remember what your kids are like at each stage of their growing up? Do you like flowers or architecture or mountains and want to document them? Do you want to show the human condition? Do you want to pursue a career in photography? Write down what you want your photography to do.

*To eventually sell my artworks (small scale markets or big time gallery) * Nature is awesome. National Geographic is my inspiration *A photo can speak a million words. It would be nice to understand the specifics of a good photo and be able to explain my intention to someone else. *Career or Hobby - let's start with hobby.

  • What subjects you want to shoot. Flowers, dogs, kids, models, food, people’s feet, whatever. Write down those things you find catch your eye or make you wish you had your camera when you see it.
*Macro on plants and small objects * Detail * Landscapes * Dancers * Storms *Formations (birds/water/clouds)

  • How you feel about those subjects. Do you love it, hate it, feel afraid of it, laugh at it, wish it was yours? This is actually the most important section of the lesson. When you understand what you feel towards something, you’ll find your photography of it improves automatically.
*I feel liberated when I capture a great moment. *Feeling connected to the subject is very satisfying and a spiritual reason to the photographs I take.

Let's Get Married

When things seem so surreal. You don't know whether to turn around or keep stepping into the unknown. Like a splinter I feel pounded with force in the most secure piece of wood on the tree of life. The pressure and expectations of being a strong and bold figure sometimes feels like I snap at the ends. But the tree of life keeps me grounded and assures me that this is where I need to be. My friends are the leaves, my family are the branches, the trunk is my hubby to be and the little squirrel that jumps and bounces around is the little bundle of joy that we have not introduced ourselves to. In time she will grow to know us. The nest week is going to be so defining. Not that any other day of our lives will be either. The last week of being Miss Megan Elizabeth McKee will then be changed forever. Extremely terrifying and so extremely happy. I've been so poised in my time leading up to the wedding. The calmest I've been a very long time. Strange? YES! Everyone around me has said it, and that's just to show how much support the beautiful people in my life has given me. Incredible. Gratitude fills my heart. There's not enough thanks in the world that I could give to the people who have helped us plan this wedding. Who knows what will bring in the coming week. What challenges will arise. Who will arrive and when they arrive. So much to look forward to. So much more to do. Every single day there is something to do. But every single day I feel amazed and the feeling of bliss just fills my body. Let the dreams roll and love flow. Today is for today and tomorrow is the for the rest of my life. Exciting? YES! Bring it on!

Photograph

They say an image can express more than a thousand words. There's moments in life that are captured by the beauty and innocent essence of a photograph, it doesn't say much to some but it says everything to another. Just like a painting with blue swirls and finger prints, to some they see blue swirls and finger prints to someone else it's the story of a five year old's first day at school and how the treasure hunt felt like it went round and round the school like swirls in the clouds. Moments come and memories fade and we know they don't last forever in our hands. Sometimes we pray for a better ending, or for a moment to stop time so we can live in the happiest of times in our lives. Still moments. Happy memories. Laughable faces. Priceless moments. The good times. The mournful eras. The wonderful changes. Indescribable feelings. As the years go by and the months sail through, the weeks are almost here. The days are yet to become hours, and hours to minutes, until the seconds become merely a hide and seek tradition. Here we are stuck in this moment, for us its the clock of weeks. 1, 2, 3, 4. The bumpy road of an endless battle. 5. A whirlwind of emotion drifted through the lives of everyone around me. 6. A decision that left a fork in the road though I wouldn't know where I'd be now if I took the slight left instead of right. 7. The flowers turned from pink to royal blue. A childhood fantasy no longer in mind. I was actually living the dream but instead of riding a soft white cloud I managed to jump on the nearest bus to the Land of Oz. 8. A blurred image that defined the dimples around our cheeks. 9. Everything seemed to look like a potato, and it was nice. 10, 11, 12. The stretch to no longer keep the key to the most sacred secret box I've ever owned. 13. No matter how much of a fairy tale life you thought you had, there was always something to remind you it's not all sweet and rosy. At some point I felt like Dorothy, wanting to go back home, somewhere familiar and close to my family. So I did. For three weeks I bunked up with Roxette 'Roxy' McKee. Chiwawa cross Fox Terrier. Mutt and best friend. She kept me company the three weeks my parents were on holidays. She snuggled, I fed her gourmet meals. She protected the house, I gave her my heart. House sitting in the bush was so calming and relaxing. From beautiful glass lit mornings with glowing green foliage to deep blue nights and silence. Pure magic. 14, 15, 16. And now 17 - things are changing. Heart beats faster. I notice, you notice. The things you notice are so weird and strange. But otherwise so magical and surreal. Too many forks in this road for me to even begin choosing right now, but I know the path I've taken so far is where I want to be. Many a time I've found myself in a dead end corner or on a road leading to catastrophe. And every time I come out wiser and stronger. Each and every time. You begin to notice the constant faces around every path you take and some that tend to fade as you choose different rights and lefts from them. Some signs always point you back to the same faces and other signs just redirect you, I guess these are the moments where you have to let go of familiar fading faces. Never goodbye, just farewell for now. When the light blemishes your vision you've gone a little too far, and same with the dark patches of the night. 17 is the number for my personal moment in time. A moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Whatever number you are or moment you're living right this second, believe it is at your best. Take as many pictures as you can so you have stories and memories to share with the ones you love, and for you to look back and feel how you felt in that moment. Cry your heart out. Laugh your guts silly. Be you. And remember the good times always.
